Sometimes with how hard life can be we get caught up in what is currently going on in our life and do not think how hard others have it. When I find myself complaining about the little things, I think of those I have come in contact with that have true struggles. I think of my patients and their lives. I think of those that have come before me and those that have already gone. Sometimes we need perspective to move forward, to stay motivated and continue to push.
Nothing is more motivating than an Olympian's story of triumph at the games after a devastating let down.

Hermann Maier: He is by far one of the best skiers of his generation. During the Nagano games, he suffered a devastating crash. It was only days after his horrific crash that he got back on the slopes and claimed gold in TWO EVENTS. Then he suffered a life threatening motorcycle crash that caused him to need major reconstructive surgery. Once he recovered, he returned to the games to medal in the Turin games.

This is Joannie Rochette- it is said that her performance was one of the most emotional moments in all of the games. At the 2010 Vancouver games, she skated in front of millions of people after she suddenly lost her mother to a heart attack. Not only did she compete but she medaled and dedicated it to her mother.

The world watched in horror during the 2010 Vancouver games when Georgian luger Nodar Kumaritashvili died tragically during a practice run. The team only composed of 10 competitors, shocked, still grieving, continued to compete in memory of their teammate. This is alpine skier Iason Abramashvili racing after the loss of his friend.
No matter what the situation these athletes faced, death, hard ship, inury they fought , they conquered and they achieved greatness. Anyone can overcome their situation, just because you come from a difficult home, just because you have endured true loss or illness does not need to define you.
Stay motivated. Push forward. Conquer your goals!
